Improvements announced at M62 Junction 6

The Department for Transport have confirmed that the long awaited improvement scheme at junction 6 of the M62 has been given the go-ahead.

The £38m scheme will increase the capacity of the junction and remove congestion and delay at its busiest periods.  The plans include two new link roads, one to connect the M57 southbound to the M62 eastbound and one to connect the M62 westbound to the A57/A5300 northbound along with a new footbridge/cycleway crossing to improve journeys across the M62 for pedestrians and cyclists.

Dr Stephen Ladyman, Roads Minister, said:

"This junction is a key gateway and these improvements will tackle congestion, improve accessibility and make journey times more reliable.

This will help to boost the economic regeneration of Merseyside - bringing benefits to regional businesses and road users."   The improvements are expected to start in Spring 2007 with construction expected to take approximately 22 months."
