Liverpool Ports Transport Committee

Jeff Marriott, your area manager for Merseyside, attended the latest meeting of the Liverpool Ports and Transport Committee.

Committee members are drawn from all parts of the transport spectrum, including the Chamber of Commerce, the passenger rail companies, Merseytravel and the Port authority. The Association is there to ensure the interests of members are represented at all times.

The committee covers a variety of subjects, but the following points may be of interest to members based in the Liverpool area as well as those operating vehicles into Merseyside.

  • City Centre Movement Strategy are on time and on budget, however, the ongoing M62 to City Centre link developments at Hall Lane are subject to delays due to a adjourned Public Inquiry.
  • Major city centre works on The Strand will result in a 2 lane contraflow until next February.
  • Consultants have been appointed to cost the requirements to enhance access from the West Coast Mainline to the docks for 9'6" containers.
  • Bus companies are pressing for bus only priority routes to address access requirements from the park and ride facilities. The RHA is pressing for the consideration of No Car lanes - this alternative would assist buses, hauliers and taxi cabs.
  • Variable Messaging System Signs should be installed before April. They will initially advise preferred routes for traffic from the tunnels and around the inner ring road, but plans include signing accidents, car park availability etc.
