North West Transport Plan

The Chambers of Commerce North West have published their Transport Priority Plan. This collective of Chambers from around the region work together on behalf of all businesses in the North West.

They find that increased congestion is rapidly reducing efficiency, flexibility and predictability and that these factors are in turn threatening the competitiveness and economic growth of the whole region.

While they agree that their findings are not new, it is always useful to uniformly declare the message that Road Transport is a vital underpinning of all aspects of our economy.

Their Top Regional Transport Priorities include

  • Increasing the capacity of the M6 (either via a new expressway or by widening).
  • Increase direct port access from the motorway network at Heysham, Liverpool and Fleetwood.
  • Finish the Hall Lane improvement scheme to link Liverpool City Centre with the M62.
  • Ensure increased capacity on the M60 Manchester Ring Road and on the M62 between Manchester and Leeds.
