"Demon Headmistress" sets Lesson Plan for Haulage Employers

Haulage companies in the North West are being given the opportunity to hear about new legislation that will affect all bus and lorry drivers this year* by introducing a new initial qualification, the Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (Driver CPC).

Organised by the Merseyside Employer Coalition, the event will be led by RHA Northern Regional Director, Geoff Dunning who said: "The new Training Directive that will apply to professional drivers is both a threat and an opportunity. A threat in that it will apply a new set of rules to heavily regulated occupations, but also an opportunity as it will encourage employers to train drivers to do their jobs better. This can mean more profits for business through greater efficiency, more job satisfaction for staff through greater involvement in their work, and improved road safety and reduced emissions for the general public through better trained drivers. It is truly a win-win-win situation."

The event is to be held at Haydock Park racecourse on 12th February** transport employers hearing from Beverley Bell, the North West Traffic Commissioner about “Operator Licensing in the 21st century” which she herself has dubbed “An insight from the Demon Headmistress”.

The event is intended to keep companies up to date with this essential legislation and also to show how companies can benefit from the necessary increased training. Other speakers include Inspector David Bell (no relation) from the Merseyside Police Roads Policing Department, a presentation from sponsors Bibby Distribution on how improved training and recruitment practices have benefited their business.  Representatives from Jobcentre Plus, Skills for Logistics, the Learning and Skills Council and Train to Gain, will also contribute. Also included will be presentations on staff recruitment and retention.

Over 50 companies have already booked to attend the event and further bookings can be made by contacting Gill Farrer on 0151 229 1800***
