The national average price for diesel has increased by a record breaking 4.6 pence per litre in the last fourteen days of February according to the Road Haulage Association's price watch monitor.
"For the average HGV operator, this represents an unacceptable £2,700pa increase in fuel costs," said RHA Chief Executive Roger King.
“Everyone is getting punch drunk with the rising cost of motoring, but for road hauliers, coping with these increases is becoming a life or death issue. The Chancellor simply HAS to rethink his earlier decision to add to the industry's misery by going ahead with his 2 pence per litre fuel duty increase on 1 April. His Budget on 12 March is ideally placed to announce its abandonment".
