RHA says "NO" to Irish HGV Height Restriction
The RHA has joined with the Irish Road Haulage Association in condemning the Irish authorities for seeking a height restriction for HGVs in Ireland of 4.65m - the UK has no such restriction. Furthermore, the Irish Government is seeking Brussels approval for its plan.
"This seems to us a crazy idea", said RHA Chief Executive Roger King. "The UK has a common border with Ireland and the UK is Ireland's biggest trading partner. It is therefore essential that in the interests of open trade and uniform regulations, this height restriction application be rejected".
The RHA has written to Stephen Ladyman, the Roads Minister, inviting the Department for Transport to approach the Brussels authorities urging rejection of the Irish Governement's application.
"Such a height restriction is an additional red tape regulation, and since the UK Government is keen to reduce bureacracy, I hope we can look forward to a positive response", concluded Roger King.
