RHA Scottish Members meet to discuss their options

Road Haulage Association Scottish members in Edinburgh today held a meeting to discuss the options for action in the light of the rising cost of fuel and have issued the following statement:

After careful consideration, the Scottish hauliers have unanimously agreed that we need a period of stability for every part of the UK economy.

The current high price of oil has had a serous effect on the competitiveness of the country.  We urge the government to implement a fuel price regulator which will help bring about certainty and stability to all who rely on fuel.

We recognise that the government needs revenue to run the country, but the extra revenue IS a windfall and giving the excess back in a duty reduction OR an increase in duty if oil prices drop, gives everybody certainty to plan for the future.

Fuel affects every business and we urge all businesses and organisations to support our cause.  We also ask the public to support this otherwise we will have a more expensive Christmas,

The price of diesel is only around 37 pence per litre before 50 duty and 15p VAT brings the retail sale in at £1.02.
