National Freight Course
Applicants for a Standard Goods Vehicle Operator's Licence must show that they are 'professionally competent' or that they employ a transport manager who meets the requirements. Persons will be considered 'professionally competent' by passing the examination for the Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) conducted by OCR Examinations on behalf of the Department for Transport (DfT).

Nature of The CPC Course
These are general intensive study courses designed to enable the candidate to acquire the specific knowledge necessary to obtain the Certificate of Professional Competence for National Freight.
The course consists of:-
- Unit 1 National Core (30 multiple choice questions - 45 minutes)
- Unit 2 National Road Haulage (40 multiple choice questions - 60 minutes)
- Unit 4 National Road Haulage (Case Study - written answers - 120 minutes)
Full CPC certificates will be issued on passing all 3 units. Individual unit certificates will be issued if not successful in all examinations, which will be exchanged for a full certificate on passing the outstanding unit examinations.
Please allow 8 weeks for results to be received after the exam date.
Exam Dates - 2008
Exam dates will be Friday 6 June, Friday 5 September, Friday 5 December.

The CPC courses are held at three locations Bradford, Peterborough & Reading (Swallowfield).
The courses held in Bradford, Peterborough and Reading provide CPC Modular Training 2 days a week over a duration of 4 weeks, including an extended preparation day for exam Unit 4.

OCR regulations specify that entries for examinations will not be accepted less than 21 days before the examination date.
Examination fees paid to the OCR are not refundable after the closing date for the examination.

CPC International FAQ
Q - I achieved my CPC National Certificate before October 1999. Can I achieve a full International Certificate by just taking the new International unit?
A - Upgrading was only available until June 2004. You will now have to re-take all four units to achieve a full National and International CPC certificate.

Unit 6 International Road Haulage (Case Study - written answers - 60 minutes)
The International Freight qualification can only be obtained as part of a combined National/International course or if the National qualification is already held.
