Heavy Haulage
Membership is open to hauliers who operate vehicles under STGO regulations but cannot operate under C&U Regulations, or have vehicles which comply with C&U Regulations but which are frequently engaged on traffic necessitating operations under the terms of STGO, or who regularly handle traffic requiring statutory notification to the police for width or length under C&U Regulations.
The movement of these abnormal loads, under the Special Type General Order (STGO) Regulations, can be difficult for those hauliers who have little knowledge of the STGO Regulations.
The loads require special marking, movement has to be given to the Highway and Bridge Authorities and the Police, and an attendant may have to accompany the driver under certain conditions. Currently, the telephone and fax numbers of the agencies that have to be notified keep changing, which makes the movement even more difficult.
All members of the Group are continually kept updated with changes of telephone and fax numbers, roadworks and restrictions that could hinder the movement of certain loads at certain times. Any problems that are encountered by Group Members can be dealt with by the Committee or the Secretary and, if necessary, meetings arranged with the Police, the Local Authorities or the Department for Transport (DfT), to resolve the problem.
Members of this specialist Group believe that the modest fee of £25 + VAT per head is well worth it for the information and assistance they receive. By being a member of the Group, they also have a bigger voice when responding to proposed legislation that might adversely affect their business. Contact Steve Biddle on 01932 841515.
